Impact of Crimping Procedure and Storage on the Mechanical Performance of Peripheral Drug-Eluting Stents
Year: 2013
Type: article
Abstract: The coating of self-expanding peripheral vascular stents of nitinol remains a challenge due to their characteristic material properties and geometrical design specifics. In this study, nitinol stents were spray-coated with PLLA/SIR and their mechanical properties as well as the drug release were determined.Radial force and bending stiffness slightly increase due to the coating, while no considerable influence on the mechanical behaviour during the crimping process on a modified catheter system and during storage of the crimped stents was shown. An influence of crimping and releasing the stents from the catheter system on the drug release could not be determined.
