Abstract: Spectra of the QSO PKS 1157 + 014 with low and intermediate dispersion have been obtained with the 3.9-m Anglo-Australian Telescope. The QSO has C IV λ 1549 and C III] λ 1909 emission lines at ze = 1.978 ± 0.008, but Lα in emission is absent or, at most, extremely weak. There are at least four, and possibly seven, absorption systems ranging from za = 1.9881 to 1.7203 with a variety of ionization states. Lα absorption appears to be present in all systems. Several systems have C IV lines that are stronger relative to Lα than is usual for gas in our Galaxy. Many of the absorption systems have velocities |$\lesssim 10^{4} \,\text{km/s}$| relative to the emission lines, suggesting an origin in a QSO wind.
