Les pertes algériennes de 1954 à 1962.
Year: 1982
Type: article
Abstract: The Algerian losses from 1954 to 1962 have been subject to estimations varying from 200 000 to 3 000 000 individuals, that is to say from 1 to 15, Algeria defining itself sometimes as the "country of a million and a half martyrs". A comparison with other conflicts shows that this number is to be discarded. The results of the 1st of July 1962 referendum cannot be taken as a basis for deduction as the figures are not exact, but the study of the demographic evolution and census makes it possible to propose, as being the most valid, a figure of approximately 300 000.
