Abstract: This article explores the performance of the additional member systems of proportional representation introduced in the UK for elections to the Scottish Parliament, the National Assembly for Wales and the Greater London Assembly. It sets out the key features of these systems and examines how they have fared in terms of delivering (more) proportional results, using a range of measures of deviation from proportionality. On all measures the British AMS systems have relatively high levels of deviation from proportionality, but still rather less than the plurality system still used for Westminster.
