OC29.06: Just images: Ultrasound diagnosis of ectopia cordis and anencephaly associated with amniotic bands
Year: 2005
Type: conference-abstract
Abstract: A 40 year-old Asian female G4P3 at 18 weeks gestation was referred for evaluation of multiple fetal anomalies. The patient's medical, surgical, and obstetrical history was unremarkable. Extensive 2D, fetal echocardiography, 3D/4D ultrasound scans were obtained. Still images and video sequences were stored for later review and presentation. The findings were consistent with an 18-week size singleton intrauterine pregnancy with absent calvarium and amorphous cerebral tissue consistent with anencephaly, skin/thoracic wall edema, ectopia cordis, amnion/chorion separation with amniotic band connecting to pericardium and normal amniotic fluid. The patient opted for induction and subsequently delivered. Autopsy results confirmed the prenatal findings. The karyotype was 46,XX. This case identifies ectopia cordis with a predominant abdominal component. The association of ectopia cordis with anencephaly and amniotic bands has not been previously reported in the literature. This constellation of findings could be explained embryologically with a unifying defect and timing of an insult. http://www.interscience.wiley.com/jpages/0960-7692/suppmat/index.html This article contains supplementary material available via the Internet from the Journal http://www.interscience.wiley.com/jpages/0960-7692/suppmat/index.html Please note: The publisher is not responsible for the content or functionality of any supporting information supplied by the authors.
