Abstract: Since its launch on the 4th of July 2008 until 2012 the ZooKeys journal has been showing a constant growth and advancement in editorial workflow, constantly implementing new and improved publishing and dissemination technologies. This Editorial explores how 2012 was an important year in the development of Zookeys and how this year contributed to the 4 years of positive experience.
