Abstract: ABSTRACT In a tailored test, each item is selected for administration on the basis of the examinee's responses to previous items, with a view towards optimum measurement of this particular examinee. Various simple rules for 1) selecting the items to be administered and 2) scoring the examinee's responses are compared and evaluated. Some fundamental ideas emerge that will serve as guides in the future design of tailored testing programs.
