Erratum to “Species-specific identification of commercial probiotic strains” (J. Dairy Sci. 85:1039–1051)

Year: 2012
Type: erratum
Abstract: In Table 2 (page 1041), the source for 2 bacterial strains was incorrect. Strains with laboratory designations DPTC 047 (B. infantis BBI) and DPTC 003 (B. longum BBL) were incorrectly noted to come from Chr. Hansen (Milwaukee, WI); these strains were actually from Danisco (Madison, WI). The authors regret the error. Species-Specific Identification of Commercial Probiotic StrainsJournal of Dairy ScienceVol. 85Issue 5PreviewProducts containing probiotic bacteria are gaining popularity, increasing the importance of their accurate speciation. Unfortunately, studies have suggested that improper labeling of probiotic species is common in commercial products. Species identification of a bank of commercial probiotic strains was attempted using partial 16S rDNA sequencing, carbohydrate fermentation analysis, and cellular fatty acid methyl ester analysis. Results from partial 16S rDNA sequencing indicated discrepancies between species designations for 26 out of 58 strains tested, including two ATCC Lactobacillus strains. Full-Text PDF Open Archive
