Alcibiades and Aspasia : Notes on the Hippolytus
Year: 2000
Type: article
Abstract: • Antisthenes' conceit that Alcibiades "lay with his mother, his daughter and his sister" is examined for possible grains of truth. The "mother" may have been Aspasia, and the source of the imputation the anecdotal tradition which had its roots in Euripides Hippolytus where, it is argued, the character of Phaedra is modelled on that of Aspasia.
