Abstract: I have previously articulated the creation of a World Project Initiative for Chemical Biology and Drug Design to support the scholarly quest of those individuals throughout the world who are motivated to learn about the multidisciplinary fields of chemical biology and drug design. In synchrony with the first year anniversary celebration of the journal (CB&DD), global networking is being expanded with the development of a Chemical Biology and Drug Design Web Portal that will feature links to this journal as well as to provide key tools for knowledge sharing and a communication hub to enable the orchestration of a World Congress for Chemical Biology and Drug Design, a World Society for Chemical Biology and Drug Design and a World Prize for Chemical Biology and Drug Design. It will be strategically important to advance a global networking campaign as a dynamic constituent of the 2007 modus operandi of the World Project Initiative for Chemical Biology and Drug Design. I encourage readers to accept this as an invitation to become actively engaged. I am committed to build upon the successful launching of CB&DD to spread the word, the energy and modus operandi of what is envisaged for the World Project Initiative for Chemical Biology and Drug Design. A global networking campaign is underway to enable the modus operandi of the World Project Initiative for Chemical Biology and Drug Design. This includes the establishment of founding corporate sponsorships for the Chemical Biology and Drug Design Web Portal, and charter sponsorships to enable the development of a World Congress, World Society and World Prize for Chemical Biology and Drug Design. In synchrony with such sponsorship building, a worldwide invitation is hereby extended to scientists who are interested to be actively engaged in the World Project Initiative for Chemical Biology and Drug Design. Specifically, there are genuine opportunities for leadership, membership and internship roles. For example, the Chemical Biology and Drug Design Web Portal will require expert guidance in its functionalities and quality of knowledge-sharing capabilities, including interfaces with institutions and databases of significance to chemical biology and drug design. Furthermore, the creation of special internships initially focused on the Web Portal and CB&DD will provide the basis to ensure effective relationships to scholarly training. The Web Portal is envisaged to provide a sophisticated global knowledge environment and central framework to enable working relationships with CB&DD, a World Congress for Chemical Biology and Drug Design, a World Society for Chemical Biology and Drug Design and a World Prize for Chemical Biology and Drug Design. Some featured content of the Web Portal includes: (i) Technology Platform Directory (listing innovative technologies, web links and case studies); (ii) Ligand-Target Space Database (to capture structural, mechanistic and disease-oriented knowledge relative to both chemical/biological ligands and therapeutic targets representing major gene families); (iii) Chemical Biology and Drug Design Forums (e.g. Medicine Pipeline Forum, Science Philosophy Forum and Words of Wisdom Forum); and (iv) Worldwide access to Special Thematic Issues of CB&DD. For anyone interested to become actively involved in any of these activities, please specify your interests as related to a Web Portal Strategic Planning Committee, a Ligand-Target Space Database Task Force, and/or one of several Chemical Biology and Drug Design Forum (identify preference) Working Groups. The organization of a World Congress for Chemical Biology and Drug Design as well as the development of collaborative relationships with existing conferences and workshops is contemplated within the scope of a global networking campaign to support the World Project Initiative for Chemical Biology and Drug Design. For anyone interested to become actively involved in such efforts, please specify your interests as related to the World Congress Strategic Planning Committee and/or other future conferences or workshops that you may propose as collaborative relationship. In the latter regard, opportunities will be considered with respect to publishing special issues of CB&DD by way of invitations to presentations (oral/poster) at such conferences or workshops having high merit and scholarly relationship to the multidisciplinary fields of chemical biology and drug design. The creation of a World Society for Chemical Biology and Drug Design will provide the ultimate achievement to the global networking campaign of the World Project Initiative for Chemical Biology and Drug Design. For anyone interested to become actively involved in the creation of a World Society, please specify your interests as related to a World Society Strategic Planning Committee and/or World Society Charter Membership. Obviously, for some time the World Society will be a virtual entity, but leadership and membership support will be critically essential for the transition to a non-profit organization reflecting the philosophy of CB&DD in terms of being dedicated to the advancement of science, technology and medicine with a focus on the multidisciplinary fields of chemical biology and drug design. The World Prize for Chemical Biology and Drug Design will consist of several types of scholarly research and leadership awards to acknowledge achievements and contributions of outstanding individuals, teams and institutions to chemical biology and drug design. For anyone interested to become actively involved in the establishment of a World Prize, please specify your interests as related to a World Prize Strategic Planning Committee and/or other possible roles (including liaison with potential corporate sponsors). As concluding remarks, I invite active participation of interested individuals who share such a vision to establish the global realization and future legacy of chemical biology and drug design with respect to the advancement of science, technology and medicine.
