Abstract: Lagrange (Hugues). - Do Men have more Sexual Partners than Women ? In a survey carried out in 1989 in the Rhone-Alps region, each person was questioned about the number of their sexual partners during the last 12 months. This number was analyzed in terms of various factors : sex, type of sexuality, age, marital status, etc. But there was systematic difference between the answers given by men and women. The former claimed to have had sexual partners than the latter. This difference was primarily the result of a small number of statements made by men, who claimed to have had a large number of partners which often included prostitutes and sometimes lacked credibility. The discussion of these marginal situations leads us to question the very notion of « sexual partner » and the difference in the interpretation given to this term by men and women.
