Abstract: Welcome to the seventh edition of the Education Book for the annual BMT Tandem Meetings, of the American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation and the Center for International Blood & Marrow Transplant Research (CIBMTR), held in Honolulu, Hawaii. It is comprised of 16 reviews prepared by the scientific session speakers on the wide range of topics covered at the meeting. These reviews, in the areas of experimental and clinical transplantation, stem cell biology, genomics, immunology, and histocompatibility, underscore the progress we have made as well as the challenges that remain as obstacles to our collective goal of improving the outcome of stem cell transplant patients. We anticipate that these reviews will be useful resources for clinicians, laboratory investigators, fellows, nurses, pharmacists, advanced practice professionals, and administrators involved in the BMT field. The authors are to be commended for a truly wonderful collection of state-of-the-art manuscripts that address many of the critical scientific and clinical issues related to stem cell transplantation and cellular therapy. I thank all of the authors for their time and effort in writing these excellent summaries. I would also like to thank the associate editors for their thoughtful reviews. The Organizing Committee is to be congratulated for putting together such a distinguished group of clinicians and scientists, making the 2011 BMT Tandem Meetings a major success.
