La productivité agricole au XVIIIe siècle en région mosane (Belgique)

Year: 2000
Type: article
Abstract: . Eighteenth Century Agricultural Production in a Belgian Region. Agricultural productivity is a complex idea, the evolution of which is essential in understanding economic change in the west between the 18th and 19th centuries. The Mosane region, which combined modernity and tradition by the 16th century, and which launched European industrialization, has been diversely analyzed in this regard. Those results are reexamined and synthesized herein. Next, the varius indicators represented by land price, evolution of tax revenues (dîmes), cereal seed types and share-cropping accounts are identified, analyzed and commented. The entirely provisional results would suggest that from the end of the 17th to the beginning of 19th centuries physical productivity declined, although this did not preclude an increase in production nor an improvement in peasant income.
