Abstract: A deep IIIaF plate has been obtained at the prime focus of the AAT which shows the candidate star described by Kristian & Westphal and Crane et al. near the timing position of the binary pulsar PSR 1913 + 16. Our astrometry shows that this star does not coincide with the timing position. High-speed photometry of the candidate shows no evidence for pulsations down to a time-averaged R magnitude of 26.5.
