Abstract: Summary This chapter reviews current computational models and proposes future directions for computational modeling in the field of epilepsy. The models include single cells with mutated ion channels; small‐ and large‐scale networks of detailed cells; and macroscopic, mean‐field models of network dynamics. In addition, we consider the potential therapeutic applications of modeling. For an expanded treatment of this topic see Jasper’s Basic Mechanisms of the Epilepsies, Fourth Edition (Noebels JL, Avoli M, Rogawski MA, Olsen RW, Delgado‐Escueta AC, eds) published by Oxford University Press (available on the National Library of Medicine Bookshelf [NCBI] at http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books ).
