Lokalität und die Dimensionen des Globalen
Year: 2013
Type: article
Abstract: At first sight, contrasting “locality” and “the global” seems to revive the macro–micro controversy of the 1980s and 1990s. Whatever the differences, the article argues that not only everyday, postcolonial, or micro history but also macro, structural, or global history fit a general trend since the Enlightenment to emphasize relations more than fixed entities and categories. Reading Latour, Appadurai, Castells, Khondker, Morris, Osterhammel, and Mignolo, the author explores risks and chances of emphasizing relations and concludes that “locality” is a promising concept for dealing with relations addressing global issues that can be applied to all historical categories and entities and not just spatial questions.
