Abstract: binding recommendations to purchasers, it sets no date for implementing its recommendations, and it identifies no new money to fund them.Yet most affected patients live in inner cities with high levels of social deprivation and NHS resources already under pressure.Furthermore, there is no indication that the Department of Health intends to monitor the implementation of this report, which is regrettable.Regardless of the report, the forum believed that the Department of Health should urgently address prescription charges and the provision of syringe pumps, syringes, butterfly needles, and other equipment for individual patients with haemoglobinopathy.
