Le modèle du « Journalisme public »

Year: 2003
Type: article
Abstract: Despite the reticences of some journalists since its inception in the late 1980s, public journalism is an expanding phenomenon. A far-reaching study involving 360 American newspapers shows that two out of three publishers are now “sold” to the principles of this new paradigm and almost half of them regularly apply its principal techniques (in-depth interviews, focus groups, citizens’ forums, opinion polls, innovative methods for feedback, etc.). According to Jay Rosen, one of the founders of this new approach, public journalists must contribute to the quality of democratic life by reestablishing a relationship of trust and a true dialogue between citizens and the press. As well as factual accounts, readers expect concrete solutions to society’s great dysfunctions and to their own difficulties in everyday life. Without this constructive dimension, citizens will continue to abandon traditional news media.
