Evaluation of Kato's Thick Smear Technic With a Cellophane Cover for Helminth Eggs in Feces
Year: 1966
Type: article
Abstract: The authors have evaluated a technic introduced by Kato and Miura (1954) involving a simple, thick smear method using a cellophane cover for the examination of helminth eggs in stools. This technic differs from the ordinary direct smear in that a larger quantity of stool can be adopted on a slide and cellophane is used as a cover in lieu of a glass slip.Kato (1960) emphasized that the technic was simple and of a high sensitivity for the detection of eggs and required a minimum of working time and materials .In this study, the authors were interested not only in testing the sensitivity of the new technic per se, but in analyzing the reason for the high sensitivity , if given, and in studying certain conditions that would be required for the effective application of this technic.
