Impact of Information Overload and Task-technology Fit on Technostress

Year: 2012
Type: article
Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: Technostress is described as individuals’ inability to effectively deal with information and communication technologies (ICTs). Addressing it is important because stressed individuals’ productivity is adversely affected. We contribute to technostress literature by studying the impact of information overload and task-technology fit on technostress. We propose that information overload worsens technostress, whereas situations of task-technology fit alleviate technostress in individuals. Results from surveying 664 working professionals provide support for our proposed model. The implications from our study are discussed and provide an avenue for organizations to address technostress.
