Las Habilidades Cognitivas En Niños Preescolares: Un Estudio Comparativo En Un Contexto De Pobreza

Year: 2010
Type: article
Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: In order to describe the sequential and simultaneous cognitive skills of children under poverty conditions in San Miguel de Tucuman (Argentina), 283 children between 3 and 5 years old who attended Primary Health Care Centres for paediatric control were assessed. The cognitive skills were identified with the Kaufman Assessment Battery for Children (K-ABC). Additionally, a socio-demographic survey was administered to their parents. The multivaried statistical analyses showed significant differences in the children's cognitive performance according to poverty levels in the 4-and 5-year-old groups, particularly in sequential skills. The study provides data that are particularly useful for planning school curricula in the pre-school level
