Abstract: Carotenoid-rich biomass of the green microalga Chlorella spp. (cf. C. vulgaris) was used as a feed supplement to increase the colouration of a juvenile freshwater fish – sterlet, Acipenser ruthenus (Linnaeus, 1758) – that has recently been used as an ornamental species. The major changes were found in the colouration of the skin of the fish. A change to a yellow colouration of body sides and abdomen was seen in the fish group fed on the Algadiet supplemented by phototrophically (PTT) grown Chlorella compared with the white-grey colour of the same body parts in the control group
