Identifying a language or an accent: from segments to prosody
Year: 2004
Type: article
Abstract: Identifying a language or an accent relies on both segmental and suprasegmental levels: phonotactic constraints, unit distribution and function, syllable structure, vocal gestures and settings, global rhythm, stress, intonational patterns, etc. How to disentangle the influence of segmental vs. suprasegmental features (i.e. the phoneme string vs. prosody)? The aim of this communication is to gain insight in the contribution of different linguistic levels to the perception of a language or an accent, from segments to prosody .
