What Remains of the Stability Pact and What Next
Year: 2005
Type: article
Abstract: The Stability and Growth Pact has “more or less collapsed” as a result of the reforms, leading Swedish economist Lars Calmfors told at a lunchtime meeting at Bruegel. Presenting a report on the pact, prepared on behalf of the Swedish Institute for European Policy Studies (Sieps), he was strongly critical of the loopholes introduced for governments reluctant to act decisively to reduce excessive deficits.
