Novel types of self-healing coatings for corrosion protection of metal substrates

Abstract: In this work a new concept for simultaneous healing of barrier properties, passivation of the metallic substrate and the esthetic qualities of coatings is discussed.Using strain-recovering (shape-memory) materials, low-viscous UV-cure coating formulations were prepared with either amorphous or semi-crystalline switching units.
