De invloed van functietype op het verband tussen leeftijd en inzetbaarheid

Year: 2005
Type: article
Abstract: Secondary analysis of a cross-sectional survey among 1463 employees from several companies shows that employability for one’s own function increases with age, but employability for other functions decreases with age. However, the type of job influences the relationship between age and employability for other functions. Among those that have a general job, which is varied and demands creativity and a capacity for learning, the negative relationship between age and employability for other jobs is weaker in comparison to those that have a specialist job. The positive linear relationship between age and employability for one’s own job, however, applies equally to those that have a general and those that have a specialist job. If the aim of extending working life beyond the present retirement age is to be met, increasing the number of general jobs is to be recommended. Not only because employees in these jobs appear to be more employable for both their own and other jobs, but particularly because compared to specialist jobs, in general jobs employability for other jobs decreases with age to a lesser extent.
