Abstract: Female-female pairs constituted at least 10%, perhaps a substantially greater fraction, of the 1972-1978 breeding population of Western Gulls (Larus occidentalis) on Santa Barbara Island, California. In this population, the adult sex ratio was estimated to be 0.67 males per female. This appears to be the consequence of differential survival rates and may have a causal role in the formation of female-female pairs.
