Abstract: The electronic information age is upon us. Cellular phones are in every pocket. E-mails go across the hall and across the globe. Web-assisted workers make our national economies more productive and efficient. In biomedical publishing, manuscripts are submitted and reviewed on-line and then redacted electronically when accepted. Instead of reprints, PDF files are exchanged. Literature searches begin with MEDLINE and end by downloading individual journal articles off the ubiquitous web—and all this from the comfort of an easy chair via a laptop computer and a wireless connection.
