267: Larger Stem Cell Dose is Associated with Decreased Symptom Severity after Autologous Stem Cell Transplantation for Multiple Myeloma
Year: 2008
Type: article
Abstract: Significance: High-dose chemotherapy with autologous stem cell transplantation (HDC-AuSCT) has become an established procedure for treatment of multiple myeloma (MM). During HDC-AuSCT, patients develop a symptom burden that substantially interferes with daily activities. Theoretical Framework: Symptom burden is the combined impact of all symptoms on one's ability to function as one did before onset of disease and therapy. Problem and Purpose: Minimizing the symptom burden of HDC-AuSCT may allow more patients the chance to receive its demonstrated benefits.
