Abstract: Simple heuristics' are a family of 'fast and frugal' inference procedures that are claimed to be used by ordinary thinkers and to be as accurate as more complex strategies. One such procedure is 'Take The Best', which renders a judgment by using only the cue that is thought to have the highest cue-validity.What will happen in a legal setting if jurors use Take The Best but their cue-validity estimates are inaccurate? How should the legal system deal with the threat of inaccurate cues?Four types of remedies are considered and their effectiveness is weighed.
