Psychometric properties of the BFI-K: A cross-validation study

Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: In recent years, the BFI-K, a short version of the well-established Big Five Inventory (BFI), has been employed in a number of studies investigating samples from heterogeneous populations. As the BFI-K had been validated only in homogeneous student samples, cross-validation in an extended, heterogeneous sample was called for. The present study (N = 5,178) aimed to meet this demand. Factor analysis, which was carried out using Exploratory Structural Equation Modelling (ESEM), validated the factorial structure. A three-factor MANOVA conducted with the variables age, gender, and education replicated the well-known effects of sociodemographic variables on the Big Five. Hence, our results reveal that the psychometric properties of the BFI-K scales are in line with those of the initial validation studies.
