Abstract: A novel enantioselective total synthesis of (-)-alstonerine has been completed that requires only 15 steps from L-tryptophan. The synthesis features the first application of a Pauson-Khand reaction to synthesize an azabridged bicyclic skeleton. [reaction: see text]
