Zeewieren van de voormalige oesterputten bij Yerseke

Year: 2007
Type: article
De soort is elders in Europa slechts herkend in Zuid-Engeland.\nOok werden hier voor de eerste maal in Nederland fertiele sporofyten van het siphonale groenwier Derbesia marina gevonden.\nFormer oyster ponds situated on a tidal flat in the sheltered eastern part of the Oosterschelde Basin offer a suitable substrate for many benthic marine algae. Through the years a rather special algal vegetation has persisted here, containing some species that are absent or rare elsewhere in the Netherlands. However, over the last two decades the aspect of the algal vegetation has changed dramatically, exotic organisms becoming dominant at the expense of autochthonous species: Ulva pertusa, Sargassum muticum, Undaria pinnatifida, Agardhiella subulata, Dasya baillouviana, Dasysiphonia spec. and Polysiphonia senticulosa, often attached to the likewise introduced oyster Crassostrea gigas, are now among the most commonly found species, although most are only seasonal.\nA special, almost monospecific vegetation of Vaucheria longicaulis is sometimes found during summer, covering many hectares of the sandy flats. This appears to be a recent introduction into the Netherlands, with some characteristics of an invasive species. Its known occurrence in Europe has so far been restricted to southern England.\nAlso, fertile sporophytes of Derbesia marina are reported from the Netherlands for the first time.
