Disaccharides as Sialic Acid Aldolase Substrates: Synthesis of Disaccharides Containing a Sialic Acid at the Reducing End

Year: 2007
Type: article
Abstract: Synthesis with an unfussy enzyme: Escherichia coli sialic acid aldolase has been found to be unusually flexible in accepting disaccharides containing a mannose (Man) or N-glycolylmannosamine (ManNGc) at the reducing end as substrates for synthesizing disaccharides containing deaminoneuraminic acid (KDN)or N-glycolylneuraminic acid (Neu5Gc) at the reducing end (see scheme; Gal: galactose; Glc: glucose). The chemoenzymatic method is general and efficient.
