Abstract: It has been suggested' that the phonological difficulties evidenced by many developmental dyslexics may be symptomatic of an underlying temporal processing deficit for any sounds that must be processed in rapid succession.Evidence from studies involving visual stimuli* suggests the possible existence of a temporal processing deficit in dyslexics in the visual modality. The current study investigated the possibility that temporal processing deficits in both the auditory and visual modalities coexist in severely reading disabled adolescents.Tasks were devised to assess ability at making judgments of numerosity, temporal order, and pattern sequence matching, using rapid presentation of stimuli, in both modalities.A visual task employing simultaneous presentation of pattern stimuli was included. It was hypothesized that the dyslexics would be impaired relative to the age-matched controls on the auditory and visual tasks involving sequential presentation, but not on the visual task involving simultaneous presentation. It was also hypothesized that scores
