The Victimisation of Probationers
Year: 2003
Type: article
Abstract: Starting with a review of the current theoretical approaches to victimisation, this article seeks to explore in greater detail an important absence in current victimological theorising – namely the intersection between offending and victimisation. Using data from a national (UK) sample and data from a recently completed study of the offending and victimisation of probationers, the article illuminates the extent to which probationers are victimised and illustrates some of the processes by which people become both victims and offenders. In the closing sections of the article, the authors return to a discussion of the victimological literature and urge researchers working in this field to pay more attention to the victim–offender overlap.
