Organ Procurement Organization Liver Acquisition Costs Could More Than Double With Proposed Redistricts
Year: 2015
Type: article
Abstract: The Organ Procurement and Transplant Network (OPTN) Liver Committee released a document on June 16, 2014 proposing redistricting models to reduce variation in the Model for End-Stage Liver Disease (MELD) score at time of transplant (1). Based on two papers, it suggests that increased costs will be offset in pretransplant care (2,3). The only references to Organ Procurement Organization (OPO) costs were costs of charter flights. This approach reflects a misunderstanding of how costs are allocated on OPO cost reports.
