Abstract: The electrochemistry of the electrode of cells in molten was found to be similar to that in room temperature cells. The emf curve for was nonlinear and could be treated in terms of a regular solution model. The effect of electrode thickness was investigated, and the results indicated that good utilization (∼70%) could be obtained with thick (0.66 cm) electrodes. The performance of engineering‐scale cells (77–142 A‐hr capacities) was investigated.
