Abstract: We explore a mechanism for generating the Yukawa hierarchies by displacing the left- and right-handed components of the standard model fermions in a higher-dimensional space. We find a unique configuration of displacements which fits all quark and lepton masses and mixing angles, with a prediction for the strange quark mass ${m}_{s}^{\overline{\mathrm{MS}}}(2$ $\mathrm{GeV})\ensuremath{\approx}(1.19)\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{(V}_{\mathrm{ub}}{V}_{\mathrm{cb}}{/V}_{\mathrm{us}}{)}^{1/2}\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{m}_{b}^{\overline{\mathrm{MS}}}{(m}_{b})\ensuremath{\approx}120$ MeV.
