Abstract: Objective: To analyze the C-reactive protein (CRP) concentration in healthy prepubertal active and sedentary children. Methods: the sample was composed of 24 boys and 26 girls with age between 08 and 11 years old. The habitual physical activity level (PAL) was mensured by Bouchard modified questionnaire. The BMI was calculated through the relation between body mass/heigh. To collect information about the lipids consumption of the diet, the questionnaire of 24 hours was used. The blood pressure was measured using a mercury column sphygmomanometer. The total cholesterol (TC), HDL-C, LDL-C, triglycerides (TG) and glucose were determined by the enzymatic-colorimetric method. The insulin was determined by the eletroquimioluminescense method, the insulin resistance was calculated by the HOMA-IR, and CRP was mensured by the nefelometric method. Mann-Whitney test and Sperman’s correlation were used for statistical procedures, with significance level stipulated in p<0,05. Results: There was no significant difference in the CRP of the active and sedentary children. The active boys presented average values of TC (174,28±24,93) and LDL-C (95,21±20,20) values more elevated than your pairs with sedentary style of life (TC = 143,46±22,23; LDL-C = 71,61±18,16). When the gender were compared, the active girls presented bigger values for the body fat (17,55±3,81) and CRP (0,09±0,10) and smaller values for glucose (78,55±5,05) and HDL-C (57,73±10,58) compared to the active boys (GC = 14,08±2,9; PCR = 0,02±0,01; glucose = 85,63±7,66; HDL-C = 66,16±12,22). Among the sedentary children, girls had greater concentration of LDL-C (94,91±14,18) compared to sedentary boys (71,61±18,16). There was a positive correlation of the CRP with insulin and HOMA-IR (r = 0,83 and p = 0,01 in both variables) for the sedentary boys and negative correlation of the CRP with the TC (r = -0,87; p = 0,01) and LDL-C (r = -0,82; p = 0,02) for the sedentary girls. Conclusion: The present study demonstrated that CRP does not differ between healthy pre-pubertal active and sedentary children and even so the CRP concentration was bigger in the girls, the averages had been in the normal values of reference.
