Los usos de la categoría región en el pensamiento Geográfico Argentino

Abstract: In geographical thinking, the category region has adopted three main senses: division of a territory, political and identity construction, and conceptual instrument. In addition, six different conceptual perspectives about the region can be known: physiographic, human, functionalist, humanist, economic-political and politico-cultural. Taking these different perspectives into consideration, XX century Argentine geographical thinking (in a broad sense) will be analysed in order to account for the different uses that the idea of region has been given to in the country. Such uses, which are still currently applied, are: epistemiological, school, statistical, toponymic, folkloric, plan-oriented, organizer of public administration, solidarity promoter and as political division.
