A Detailed Process for Creating Multiple Choice Exams in a Mechanics of Materials Course

Abstract: Multiple choice exams have been used in the Mechanics of Materials course at Missouri University of Science and Technology for the past three years.Over 1000 students in 17 course sections have participated in these exams.This paper describes the exam development process that has evolved over the past five years and, in particular, how Wimba Diploma, Respondus and Blackboard have been integrated to generate and administer the exams.To date, approximately 1800 short questions have been written and 240 have been processed with the software to create 2500 unique exam questions for use on both printed and electronic exams.
