Abstract: Total proteins, lipids, carbohydrates and ash content in Sargassum dentifolium, Padina pavonica and Cystoseira myrica; Viva lactuca, Caulerpa recemosa and Halmida discodia; Grateloupa sp.; Gracilaria sp. and Laurenaria papillosa were determined. Further study of protein constituents, amino acids, phospholipids, cerbrosids, monosaccharids, fatty acids, and concentrations of vital elements in the ash fraction were carried out. The analysis showed the protein content to be higher in both the green and red algal species than it is in the brown ones. Total lipid content did not show much variation. The ash content was notably high in the brown algae. Carbohydrates showed no trend and their content fluctuated within each
