Maritime health research-should the paradigm of the hierarchy of the best evidence be changed?

Year: 2010
Type: article
Abstract: Historically the long term clinical controlled trials have been held to be the most valuable type of health research, but this seems to have changed. Randomized controlled clinical trials (RCT) were thought to be the best type of health science but the excellent results obtained in the RCTs could be obtained through public health intervention studies in only a few cases. This is probably due to the fact, that results of public health interventions depend on larger scale changes in the community and long cohort folow up studies are needed, which cannot be performed as public health experiments. These comments are considered in the case of maritime health
