Equal treatment of workers from third countries: the added value of the Single Permit Directive
Year: 2015
Type: article
Abstract: The Single Permit Directive 2011/98 provides a set of rights granting third-country workers equal treatment with national workers. What is the additional value of the Directive next to the existing EU and international rules on equal treatment of those workers? After a detailed discussion of the personal scope of the equal treatment provisions and the material rights granted, the conclusion is that the Directive provides a comprehensive set of rights for almost all third-country workers admitted and employed on the basis of national or EU law, for third-country family members and students with a job, supporting their integration in the host society.
