There are many more seats for degree courses than diploma courses and majority of the seats are governed by the Medical Council of India (MCI) system and about 20% by the National Board of Examination (NBE). Two-thirds of the MCI seats are in the government institutions, whereas more than four-fifths of the NBE seats are in private institutions.
