Abstract: ABSTRACT \nCB1 RECEPTOR ANTAGONIST AM-251: EFFECT \nON SPATIAL MEMORY IN MALE MICE \nby \nBrannon Micheal Green \nMaster of Arts in Psychology \nPsychological Science Option \nCalifornia State University, Chico \nSummer 2009 \nThe current study investigated the effect of the endocannabinoid system on \nspatial memory in mice. We hypothesized that a cannabinoid antagonist would have a \nnegative impact on spatial memory retrieval and reacquisition by interrupting normal \ncannabinoid activity associated with these spatial memory functions. C57BL/6 male mice \nwere brought to criterion on the Morris Water Maze and acutely treated with either the \nantagonist or vehicle, and were retested on the Morris Water Maze to assess retrieval. \nHalf of these mice were then chronically treated with the antagonist, vehicle or saline. \nLatency times on the Morris Water Maze were compared over 10 days to evaluate the \neffect on memory reacquisition. The cannabinoid antagonist had a small, but statistically \nsignificant, negative impact on retrieval, although it did not significantly affect \nreacquisition. \nvi
