Spin-orbit coupling in periodically driven optical lattices

Abstract: A novel scheme for the creation of artificial spin-orbit coupling for neutral ultracold atoms in an optical lattice is proposed, using a combination of fast periodic shaking of the atoms and microwave dressing rather than near-resonant light fields.
