Abstract: With the onset of The Human Genome Project, large databases have been filled with accurate, but unannotated, genomic sequences.Without the ability to determine the exact locations of the actual genes within these sequences, however, these databases are useless.Among the many methods used in verifying genomic regions is the search for homologous regions between an unannotated target sequence and a previously annotated sequence from a different species. This paper explores the use of homology as part of an overall gene finding program and determines its ability to aid in annotating gene regions.
