Genomic characterization and polymorphism analysis of genes involved in lipid- and energy metabolism in swine
Year: 2009
Type: dissertation
Abstract: In this study, twelve genes encoding key enzymes or key regulators in lipid- and energy metabolism were investigated as promising candidates for the important pork quality traits fatness, intramuscular fat content and fatty acid composition. Porcine BACs containing these genes were isolated and sequenced and gene structures were determined. The systematic re-sequencing revealed sequence variants, which were the basis of association studies that were carried out in different populations of pigs. The analyses revealed several associations between candidate gene polymorphisms and the investigated traits. The results help to clarify the genetic background of the complex traits of pork quality.
